Parker...Willie...and Cher

Saturday night was the last night of Shavy Jones.  Parker and Willie are quite the shaving ice duo.  They have customers that know and love them.  They are famous for the "melt in your mouth" ice.

Saturday they made lots of new friends - giving deals to customers - even treating the Mountain Mike employees!  They facebooked Grape Lady (now Pink Lemonade Lady) to make sure she knew it was the last night.  She wanted to come but couldn't be there until 9:30 - they agreed to stay open.  Well she arrived - took pictures - even chucked a hunk of bad ice and they autographed her last large Pink Lemonade - Heavy on the Pink!!!!

In the Olympic Spirit, closing ceremonies were held. Sparklers were lit!  They brought their original Shavy shirts - neither of which fit them any more...and to end in a bang - danced and waved the Sparklers to their favorite Cher song.....DO YOU BELIEVE IN LIFE AFTER LOVE.......

What cute boys!

I probably shouldn't laugh...but....

So, yes I admit I am watching some of the Olympic coverage, realizing that by the time I see the action, the event is over.  Right now I'm into the swimming and tennis (because Parker is) and a little bit of gymnastics.

The other night I was watching Men's Gymnastics and they were showing the "top gymnast" from Germany. The first clip showed him on the vault - totally missing the landing and falling on the ground in the fetal position and hurting his ankle.  Then, they showed him on the "bar" - the one where they jump up and flip and turn and at times let go of the bar with the intent to catch it on the way down.  Well - not this "top gymnast" he missed the bar and fell flat on his face!  Then, to continue with the pain and agony - they showed him on the floor exercise - hurt ankle - hurt pride - and of course more bad landings!!!  I was totally busting a gut at this time.  I'm sorry.....

So last night the Japanese and British were in a dead heat for silver and bronze.  It's crazy how the British look so British - you know what I mean.  It was such an important event that the cute princes - William and Harry were in the stand!  The crowd erupted with a final floor exercise that secured the bronze metal.  It was so loud that the Japanese guy on the horse missed a crucial element - again cracked me up - and this put the British in the Silver medal slot.  Well they kept showing to the poor Japanese dude with his bad hair while the British were going crazy.  Then you see the Japanese coach go up to the judges with a form and cash in his hand - a bribe?!?!?!?!?  Apparenlty when you want to challenge the score, you hand the judges a form and cash.  If they have made a mistake, they change the score and give the money back.  Well they changed the score, the Japanese took Silver and the British took Bronze......

I Love the Olympics!!!!!!

3 years, 9 months, 19 days....

Today was the day....the braces for Parker have finally been removed!
It has been quite the process, but when you start with pretty awful teeth what do you expect.
It all started when his permanent teeth were coming in over the baby teeth - not doing their job - and creating the double decker look....not good.
Teeth were extracted - in fact 7 in one day! Braces were attached at age 11!
We joked with his orthodontist the past year - would they be off before going on his mission?  Would they be off before he graduated from College?  You get the picture.

So last week we got a letter from Dr. Stevens, saying he as retiring in August.  Now we know why it took so long.  He wanted Parker to be one of his last patients!

Off She Goes!

For Meranda, I'm sure she thought June 27th would never come.  Having her farewell a few weeks early was good and bad.  Good because the stress of the talk was over....bad because everyone wondered why she was still around.

She tried to come up with new ways to tell people when she was leaving...i.e. "June 27th"..."The 27th of June"....."Wednesday, June 27th".....etc.

So today, June 27, 2012, Meranda Kay Wood left for the Buenos Aires, Argentina MTC for approximately 8 weeks and then on to the Paraguay Asuncion North Mission. She looked great - cute white top, pink cardigan, taupe peasant skirt and Toms!

I look forward to hearing about her experiences - successes and failures - good and bad!  I will miss her, but I know the time will go quickly.

P.S. Some day when I can fix my blog.....pictures will be posted!

June 20th - MK's Birthday

Today is the 22nd birthday of Meranda Kay.  The 22 years has flown by.  She was hesitant to come into the world - being 10 days late - but there has been no hesitation in the way she lives her life.  She is a wonderful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend.  She has a great personality and a warm and cheerful smile!  She is always happy (well almost) - and is very goal oriented and focused.

She has accomplished a lot in her 22 years - she has an Associate Degree and a Bachelor's degree....AND she mananged to get through school WITHOUT any debt!

She is about to embark on a great adventure for the next 18 months - leaving for Buenos Aires, Argentina on June 27th for 9 weeks and then moving on to Asuncion, Paraguay where she will serve her Heavenly Father as a Misisonary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

So Happy Birthday to my wonderful Daughter!  WE LOVE YOU!!!!!

New Carpet = House Cleaning

We got new carpet on Monday.  Ughh!!  We have been putting it off for a very long time - the old carpet had defnitely had better days - but we got the most out of it - 16 years in fact - and now it's gone!

It looks great - the house looks like it got a face lift - and it smells new! It also made us clean the house more than it's been cleaned for a very long time.

The easiest room - the Master Bedroom.  Not much clutter.  We have decided it's time to upgrade to a King size bed - so just to make sure we do it - we didn't set up the bed - yes we are sleeping on our box springs and mattress on the floor!

Parker's room - was cluttered in a Parker sort of way - and was very dusty!  There were shoes under his bed from when he was probably 10 but the funniest was his 72 hour emergency bag!  I'm glad we haven't had an emergency - but if we did - he could provide the entertainment.  His pants were now "man capris" and the shirt was a midriff - and the underwear, well let's just say he could sing soprano!

Meranda's room - well - let's just say she utilized every bit of space in her room!  We packed away her softball life - Bonnet Ball with the Pink Bubblegummers when she was five - her All-Star Uniforms from Bonnett Ball - some of her Accellerated uniforms - the Venom (spiders on the uniform) - the Starzz (her least favorite team) - the Extreme and her beloved Renegades! Then came the Hunter Wolverines - the SLCC Bruins and the USU Aggies!  The craziest thing she had saved - swim suits!!!  We counted 36 still in her room - figured she had probably already thrown away at least 15-20 more!  Thats close to $2,000 in swim suits!!!!!

Family room and living room wern't too bad - just HEAVY - hired piano movers - and went without TV for a whole day!

Glad we have the carpet - glad the house is getting back to normal! Oh - and the D.I. is well stocked!

I Guess It's a Test Thing

Parker seems to have a challenge with tests.  First his Drivers test - now a test in Biology.  After each section they study, they take a "standard" on the subject.  It has to be memorized and has to be 100% correct.  Last term, Parker had missed one of the standards and had to continually stay after school - each day missing a different word on the standard.  This made Momma Bear very frustrated and we ended up in the Principal's office to get it straighted out.

Fast forward (more like slow forward) to the 4th term.  Again Parker did not get the standard correct for the "Heart".  Because of tennis and Jazz Band he couldn't stay after school or go before to make this up until this week.  So Monday, he stayed after to get the review material - which he studied and memorized.  Tuesday, he went to take the standard and the diagram that he was tested on was completely different than he was given to study - he did however, get everything right except for identifying the Aorta (which was not in the study material).  Needless to say, Momma Bear went balistic - emailed the teacher, principal and counselor.  The teacher wasn't in school on Wednesday - so he tried again on Thursday - again FAILED....but missed a different word.  So today was the day - and FINALLY - he passed.

Hallelujah - praise the lord - whatever......  But we don't have much time to rest on the success - next week a "term project" is due - no direction from the teacher - "Just do whatever you want" - the problem - if she doesn't like what you turn in - or doesn't think you put enough time on the project - or just becuase she can - your grade is totally subjective and could be great or not so great!

CAN I SAY HOW GLAD I AM GOING TO BE TO BE THROUGH WITH JR. HIGH!
